“Come to Azerbaijan, the ‘Fireland’.”
Azerbaijan, known as the three Caucasus countries along with Georgia Armenia, has officially courted Korean tourists.
A networking dinner hosted by the Azerbaijani Tourism Agency was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 25th. The event was first organized by the Azerbaijani Tourism Authority in Korea, and was filled with a meaningful time for major local travel and tourism officials to visit Korea to promote Azerbaijan’s charm.
The welcoming speech was made by H.E. Ramin Hasanov, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Korea. He expressed his gratitude for various exchange activities with South Korea, including sisterhood ties between “Baku Karadakh-gu” and “Yongsan-gu, Seoul,” as well as expectations for friendly relations and future plans between the two countries. In his opening remarks, Florian Sengstschmid, head of the Azerbaijan Tourism Agency, expressed his ambition for Azerbaijan’s tourism charm, the growth potential of the Korean market, and multilateral cooperation.
It also conveyed Azerbaijan’s charm as a tourist destination. The tourism presentation introduced a variety of charms, including not only cultural tourism resources formed based on Azerbaijan’s long history, but also recreation, shopping, and gastronomy. We had time to find out various aspects of Azerbaijan, including Baku’s new city, which is harmonized with the past and present, the old town designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Temple of Fire-Ateshgah and the burning San-Yanar Dag, which originated from the nickname “Land of Fire.”
At this event, a large number of local travel industry officials along with the Azerbaijani Tourism Authority attended the event to express high interest in the Korean tourism market. The meeting was held in various ways, hoping that Korean travelers would be able to meet various Azerbaijani travel products.
“The total number of Korean tourists visiting Azerbaijan in the 10 months from January to October this year totaled 13,972, up 91% from 7320 a year earlier,” said Florian Sengstshmid, head of the agency. “Based on this growth, I hope Azerbaijan will become a more friendly and beloved destination for Korean travelers.” He added, “We hope that this networking dinner will make Azerbaijan’s charm widely known to Korean travelers.”
