I traveled abroad solo this year for the first time and visited Korea in June. Traveling to a distant country can seem overwhelming given the questions and planning involved.

Yet thankfully, I only needed one tool for the Land of the Morning Calm: the Visit Korea website.

This sign for Visit Korea Year 2023-2024 is in front of the National Folk Museum of Korea in Seoul.

Visit Korea Year 2023-2024 is an initiative by the Visit Korea Committee, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Korea Tourism Organization to promote domestic tourism through cultural events.

Details are available on the Visit Korea website, offering resources to simplify trip planning like the sections “Plan Your Trip,” “Where to Go” and “Things to Do,” along with suggested itineraries, travel essentials, transportation, accommodations, tips and weather forecasts. This comprehensive resource answered all my questions.

I especially found useful the site’s function of making a personalized itinerary on the website. It allows selection of any region in Korea or travel experiences such as city tours, cultural activities, leisure spots, gastronomy, Hallyu (Korean Wave) and historical sites.

The site organizes each day’s travel plan with locations, distances and estimated travel times to optimize one’s schedule. It also recommends nearby attractions according to interest.

Below is a suggested itinerary for my first day in Korea, along with photos I took while following it.

The top left corner is Myeong-dong; the bottom left corner Seoul Plaza; top right corner Jogyesa Temple; and bottom right corner Ssamzigil Plaza.

The website was invaluable in helping me navigate public transportation in Korea through payment methods, transportation options and recommended apps. I also discovered money-saving tips.

The website offers comprehensive answers to all questions on traveling in Korea, making it highly convenient. Its versatile search function enables exploration of topics with access to an array of related articles.

For instance, when I searched Hanbok rentals, I found information on rental shops, average fees and historical background on this traditional attire.

On the left are traditional hats and shoes at a Hanbok rental shop and on the right is a woman clad in Hanbok at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul.

These are just a few examples of how the Visit Korea website helped make my trip enjoyable. Its resources and helpful tips helped me organize my itinerary, discover interesting events and navigate Korea with confidence.

Undoubtedly, Visit Korea is the ideal resource for anyone visiting this fascinating country.
