The Pueblo Sister Cities Commission and Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County collaborated to participate in the Gunsan International Children’s Art Exhibition.

The annual exhibition took place Dec. 8-13, 2025 at the Gunsan Art Center in Gunsan, South Korea, according to an announcement issued by CivicPlus marketing organization.

“The Pueblo Sister Cities Commission seeks to create relationships based on cultural, business and educational trade exchanges with our partners across the world,” commission president Michael Salardino said in the announcement. “This opportunity to participate in the Gunsan International Children’s Art Exhibition is unique and a wonderful way to have students from Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County show how international relationships work.”

Recently, the city partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs for an art installation in Mayor Heather Graham’s office alongside the Pueblo Arts Alliance. That relationship paved the way for the Sister Cities Commission to invite the club to send artwork to South Korea for the exhibition.

“Participating in this international exhibition allows our young artists to share Pueblo’s creativity and spirit on a global stage,” said Becky Medina, the club’s chief operating officer, in the announcement. “This partnership reflects the best of Pueblo — community organizations coming together to support our young people and celebrate their talent.”

The club organized participation for 30 students ages 13 and younger from clubhouses across Pueblo County. The artworks, including drawings and paintings, were digitally scanned and sent to Gunsan in November to prepare for the exhibition. The first name and title of the drawing was included for each piece to be put on display during the international art show.

In December 2023, Pueblo and Gunsan signed a letter of intent to establish a friendly relationship. This is the first step in establishing ties between the two cities, according to the announcement.

In fall 2022, Pueblo officials and representatives from Pueblo Community College traveled to South Korea, including Gunsan, where they met with Mayor Kang and his team. In April 2023, professors and university officials from Kunsan University in Gunsan visited Pueblo and met with representatives from PCC and CS Wind. The visit included discussions about collaboration and exchange student programs, according to the announcement.

Sister city relationships often involve cooperation in agriculture, education, culture, economic development, safety and tourism. Pueblo has sister city relationships with Bergamo, Italy; Chihuahua, Mexico; Lucca Sicula, Sicily; Maribor, Slovenia; Puebla, Mexico; and Weifang, China.
