In his address at the seminar, Jong Ji-man, Director of the KTO MENA Regional Office, highlighted the global expansion of South Korea’s tourism reach. “Tourism to Korea is gaining global popularity,” he stated, noting a significant diversification in visitor demographics. While Asian tourists once made up the majority, increasing numbers now arrive from Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and North Africa.

He further revealed that Korea had welcomed a record-breaking 19 million international visitors this year. From Egypt alone, the growth has been remarkable — more than 5,000 Egyptians travelled to Korea in 2025, compared to just over 2,000 in 2023. This represents an increase of 15% from last year, with projections indicating that the number could exceed 7,000 by the end of this year. The figures underscore a rising curiosity among Egyptians to explore Korea’s modern cities and cultural heritage.

The seminar opened with welcoming remarks from key dignitaries, including Ambassador Kim Young-hyun of the Republic of Korea and Nader El-Beblawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Travel and Tourism Association. This initiative aligns with Korea’s growing commitment to making its destinations inclusive and welcoming for Muslim tourists from the Middle East and North Africa.

Another noteworthy participant was “Korea 360 UAE,” which seeks to merge Korean pop culture with Middle Eastern folklore and heritage. The company organizes Korean cultural events and concerts in the region while providing interactive spaces for fans to engage with Korean entertainment, lifestyle, and traditions. These collaborations are seen as powerful tools for cross-cultural understanding and economic exchange.

A representative from the Korean Ministry of Tourism delivered a compelling presentation on the global rise of the Korean Wave — a term used to describe the growing influence of South Korea’s pop culture, including television dramas, music, and cinema.
